My artwork is a panoramic landscape inspired by Freshwater West Beach. I was inspired by the brief of New Beginnings. Freshwater West is such a wild, exposed and inspiring place. The sky and sea change so quickly there, everything is always moving. It is a place of dramatic sunsets, rocks that look prehistoric, seaweeds, lichens, wild flowers and so much more.I feel that this beach is like a metaphor for life, it is always on the move, nothing stays the same forever, we have to embrace change and learn from nature. I decided to create a painting looking out to sea enclosed by the headlands to the north and south hoping that it creates a sense of looking forward and imagining possibilities for the future in a positive way.
I have used oil paint to create the painting.
Charlotte Cortazzi - Freshwater West
I studied at Wimbledon and Liverpool Art Colleges and moved to live near the coast in South Pembrokeshire in 1992. I am inspired by the dramatic and ever changing coastline. I especially love the light and colours when the sun shines and sparkles and reflects on the sea and the sand and highlights areas of the cliffs and headlands. I like to play with colour and the magic of it, enhancing colours that I may see for a moment as the light hits a rock, the froth on the sea, the glint of a flower in the grass.
I mainly paint in oils on wood panels and I also create large scale sand drawings on local beaches.
