My main source of inspiration comes from coastal walking around Pembrokeshire. When the sun is shining, I enjoy nothing more than going out and absorbing all the beauty and serenity that the land and sea has to offer. As the last year has been challenging and difficult at times, I envisaged creating a painting which could possibly distract the viewer from the current times and transport them to a joyous and healing landscape. Through my use of colour and mark making, I hope to radiate positivity and comfort. The colour palette I chose to work with carries on with this theme. By using vivid colours and expressive brush strokes I was able to create a form of escapism through an immersive experience.
Nia tyrrell - Our Costal Walk
Creating and embodiment of experience through capturing the elemental magnitude of the Welsh landscape through a phenomenological response is central to my work. The Welsh landscape can be felt as an event through its ability to override the senses, which creates a transformative and immersive experience. My work aims to capture the physicality and raw state of the landscape by using natural materials such as soil mixed into acrylic, oil and household paints. A physical and sentimental connection is formed when walking within the landscape. I create work from the intensity of recalled memory which expresses an impassioned state of mind.
After graduating from Carmarthen School of Art in 2019, I moved back to Pembrokeshire and have carried on painting since. Through animated gestures and reflective light qualities in colour I aim for my work to celebrate the landscape in Pembrokeshire where I live.
Artwork is painted onto 9mm thick plywood with a 2inch black frame, suitable for indoor display & will last for around 2 year’s outside, much longer if in a sheltered position, the artwork is varnished & robust.
