Both of my pieces for the Breakout exhibition have been inspired by the flora and fauna around Pembrokeshire, especially wildflowers. At this time of year the landscape changes so much and I find the new growth and the colors act as a reminder that brighter days are ahead.

From a young age I have always had a strong interest in flowers, taking after my parents who have enjoyed gardening. I am particularly inspired by what they represent and their beauty. I find myself now still wanting to learn the names for the flowers I see. I feel excitement when I see the wildflowers beginning to show in hedgerows, and seeing the fields change from green to yellow with Rapeseed. Through my paintings I try to capture these feelings.

I am drawn to the blues of Cornflowers and Forget-Me-Nots, the yellows of Buttercups, Dandelions, Daffodils and primroses. The whites of Cow parsley and daisies and the pinks of Foxgloves and Campions.

The main aim of my artwork is to create joy, as this I believe is the most important purpose of art. To brighten up a dull day, to make someone smile. I try to achieve this through my fluid strokes, bold mark making and a strong use of colour. Both pieces balance between being figurative and abstract, creating movement and depth. Both are acrylic.

  • I am currently based in Haverfordwest and have been painting since 2014. During this time I have completed both a Foundation Diploma and Fine Art Degree. I spent two years working onboard cruise ships selling artworks but returned home to become an artist.

I mainly paint with acrylic but have also completed a series of paintings in oil, and I enjoy life drawing in charcoal. The main body of my work is inspired by flora and fauna of Pembrokeshire. I am focused on creating bold, colourful and joyful works.
