‘Simplicity in nature’ is my first ever piece of art that will be showcased publicly. It is a project that I have worked tirelessly on for a month in order to capture the raw and natural beauty of Preseli Pembrokeshire. I drew inspiration from the surrounding Preseli mountains that circle my home, which I immediately knew fit the brief of “new beginnings” perfectly. To me and my family, the local mountains have symbolised a new beginning in every aspect of life, having stood there for thousands of years watching the past and standing there for thousands more ready to watch the future unfold. The name itself, ‘simplicity in nature’ highlights the very aspect of my piece, in the fact that nature provides hope and solace despite being the most raw and natural. And lastly, the colour green which is prominent throughout, due to the factor that in psychology it is commonly symbolic of tranquility and calmness.
Sapphire La Trobe - Simplicity in nature
My name is Sapphire La trobe and I am a 17 year old student from Pembrokeshire. From a young age I've enjoyed painting and everything that coincides with it, with my interest and admiration for all forms of the arts growing by the day. Growing up in West Wales I've been fortunate to be blessed with the scenery of the preseli mountains right on my doorstep, and from that my inspiration to paint, draw and sketch landscapes came. I also am forever intrigued and mesmerised by portraiture paintings and their ability to convey deeper meanings and emotions. I particularly enjoy working with acrylic and watercolor as a medium, both due to the fact that they can be easily shaped, layered and blended to create complexity in otherwise a simplistic image. I look forward to furthering my art career by studying art further in the future. I'm truly grateful to have been part of the Breakout Gallery this year, and hope that it isn’t my last opportunity to showcase my work.
Artwork is painted onto 9mm thick plywood with a 2inch black frame, suitable for indoor display & will last for around 2 year’s outside, much longer if in a sheltered position, the artwork is varnished & robust.
