In the depths of winter, it is sometimes possible to see a rainbow-hued halo around the moon. Caused by tiny ice crystals high up in the atmosphere that act like miniature prisms, scattering rainbow coloured light around the moon. This painting for the February Snow Moon is inspired by that feat of nature and the pale rainbow moon hangs above a snowy mountain-scape, with tiny multicoloured stars dotting the sky above.
 
This painting is one in a series of 13 paintings all featuring the full moon for each month of the year, plus the Blue Moon.
