My painting is heavy body acrylic and acrylic ink, my favourite media to use on a wooden panel.

This painting is inspired by sunlit early morning walks in the woods near my home. There’s something about seeing the hazy sunlight through the leaves at the start of the day that makes me feel at ease and fills me with hope.

When I saw that the brief for Breaking out of the Gallery was ‘New Beginnings’, I knew exactly the kind of painting I wanted to make. This abstract depiction of a sunlit forest represents my hope for each new day and the future in general.

  •  I’m a self-taught abstract artist living in Cardiff. I work primarily with acrylics on wood panels and paper, but I also enjoy using mixed media in my paintings. I paint intuitively, embracing the feeling rather than planning every brushstroke.

My paintings are all about the beauty of nature and how it makes me feel. Being outdoors makes me so, so happy – in all seasons.

I love to spend time soaking up my surroundings; appreciating the beauty of the trees and hills and coast, hearing the sounds of the leaves and birds and waves, and breathing in the scent of the sea air or the earth and flowers.

As an abstract painter, my inspiration informs the colours I choose and the textures I create. I try to channel how I was feeling outdoors when I paint, because my goal is for my paintings to evoke the happiness and calm I felt when inspiration hit.
